Reference Materials

The PEwise exam simulator includes Construction-specific reference documents within the exam interface — except for the PE Civil Reference Handbook itself. Due to licensing restrictions, we cannot distribute the NCEES handbook directly.

You can upload your own copy of the PE Civil Reference Handbook into the exam interface to use during the practice exam. To obtain your copy, register or log in to MyNCEES where you can access and download the handbook for free.

Calculator Policy

For calculations, you have two options:

  • Use your own approved calculator — The NCEES-approved calculators for 2026 include:
    • Casio: All fx-115 and fx-991 models
    • Hewlett Packard: HP 33s and HP 35s models only
    • Texas Instruments: All TI-30X and TI-36X models
  • Use the built-in calculator available in the exam interface

This is a timed 8-hour practice exam with 80 questions. It closely mirrors the PE Civil Construction exam format.

PE Construction Practice Exam FAQ

It is an 80-question, full-length simulation that mirrors the real 8-hour computer-based PE Civil: Construction exam, with an optional scheduled break. Questions span all of the NCEES Construction topic areas and use all five NCEES formats.
All five NCEES formats: multiple choice, select-all-that-apply (all-or-nothing scoring), fill-in-the-blank, drag-and-drop, and point-and-click on a figure. Select-all and the interactive types are graded exactly as on the real exam.
The simulator includes a built-in TI-36X Pro calculator and the bundled NCEES design standards as searchable PDFs — ACI 347R, ACI SP-4, the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ASCE 37, PCA EB001, MUTCD Part 6, and 29 CFR 1903/1926. You upload your own copy of the NCEES PE Civil Reference Handbook (we cannot redistribute it). Your progress is saved in the browser, and questions reshuffle on each new attempt.
